Sightglass Coffee

Sightglass Coffee is a San Francisco-based specialty roaster founded in 2009 by brothers Jerad and Justin Morrison. Operating out of a converted warehouse space in the SoMa district, Sightglass built an early reputation on high-ceiling, gallery-like cafe environments as much as on the coffee itself — a combination that helped define what a third-wave roaster-cafe hybrid could look like in an American urban setting.

The Morrison brothers launched Sightglass with a focus on direct-sourcing and transparent supply chains at a moment when those terms were still carving out space in the specialty coffee conversation. Over the following decade, the company expanded to multiple San Francisco locations while keeping roasting operations in-house, maintaining a vertically integrated model uncommon among independents of its size.

Sightglass roasts both single-origin coffees and house blends, with an approach that tends toward medium profiles that preserve origin character without sacrificing approachability. Coffees sampled through subscription services suggest an emphasis on sweet, fruit-forward cup profiles — The Coffee Vine described one offering as carrying 'a deep honey-like body, with notes of ripe berry, chocolate-covered cherry and sweet candied' fruit — a style that fits the roastery's broadly crowd-pleasing but quality-driven positioning.
