Texas Coffee Traders Cafe

Long before East Austin became a destination neighborhood, RC and Beth opened Texas Coffee Traders in 1994 with a simple premise: roast good coffee fresh, serve it well, and build something lasting. More than three decades later, the roastery they started on Austin's eastside has earned its self-described title — Austin's Original Eastside Roastery — and remains one of the city's most enduring independent coffee operations.

The café sits at 3223 E 7th Street in Austin's Govalle neighborhood, just east of downtown. The company describes the spot as convenient and cozy, and the setting lives up to that: mismatched seating, shaded patio tables, and a steady stream of artists, remote workers, regulars, and neighborhood locals passing through. In 2024, after nearly thirty years at their original East Austin address, Texas Coffee Traders moved to a set of three new East Austin locations — a warehouse and roastery, a retail café, and a Coffee Techs equipment branch — consolidating their operation while staying rooted in the same part of the city.

The roasting program is substantial. Texas Coffee Traders roasts over 100 coffees daily at their warehouse on Wilcab Road, drawing from origins across the globe — including Ethiopia, Costa Rica, and Mexico, among others. Their catalog spans mild breakfast blends and unique single-origin coffees to decaf and flavored options, serving both individual customers and wholesale accounts through their retail café and online store.

Texas Coffee Traders has always been something more than a café stop. Their commitment to sustainability, quality, and community has kept them a staple of the Austin coffee scene across three decades — a place where the smell of fresh roasting, the ease of a neighborhood café, and the sense of a long-running local institution all arrive in the same cup.
