About
Stereoscope Coffee is a specialty roaster founded in 2013 in Newport Beach, California, by a small team of baristas and Q-graders. The company built its identity around a concept it calls the Five Elements — Altitude, Soil, Fauna, Climate, and Farmer & Roaster — a framework it uses to articulate the chain of decisions and conditions that shape each coffee from farm to cup. Its design language, developed with Oslo-based studio OlssønBarbieri, has drawn as much attention as its coffee, earning a cluster of international packaging awards between 2023 and 2024.
The founding team set out with a stated mission to make high-quality specialty coffee accessible without sacrificing rigor. Starting from Orange County rather than one of the coastal specialty-coffee epicenters, Stereoscope positioned itself as a community-rooted operation with a Q-grader-trained approach to sourcing and evaluation. Over the decade since launch it has expanded its retail footprint in Newport Beach while growing a direct-to-consumer online presence and a wholesale program.
Current offerings lean heavily on Colombian micro-lots — a Las Flores Java and an El Diviso Ombligon are recent releases, the latter also available as a decaf — alongside an Ecuadorian lot from Mitad Del Mundo. Retail pricing on single-origins runs roughly $32–$38 for standard sizes, consistent with the positioning of a roaster drawing on certified Q-grader evaluation and traceable, named-farm sourcing. No specific roasting-style data (temperature curves, degree of development) is published on the site.

Coffee & Beans Review
Stereoscope's highest-profile recognition to date has come from the design world rather than the cupping table. Its packaging — created with OlssønBarbieri — earned first place at the 2023 Dieline Awards, a Gold Cube at ADC, and a Gold at the European Design Awards the same year, with a D&AD shortlist following in 2024. The awards reflect an unusually systematic brand identity for a roaster of its size, one that ties visual language directly to its Five Elements sourcing philosophy rather than treating packaging as a separate exercise.
The Newport Beach flagship at 100 Bayview is open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to a 2024 announcement by property developer Granite Properties. Retail bags of current single-origins are available for purchase through the roaster's online shop, and a wholesale reseller program is listed on the site for cafe accounts. A newsletter subscription is offered for new-release announcements.
