Cold Brew Concentrate Recipe
Two weeks of smooth, strong coffee from one batch
To make cold brew concentrate, combine 100g of very coarsely ground coffee with 500g of room-temperature filtered water — a 1:5 ratio. Stir, cover, and refrigerate 16–18 hours, then strain through a sieve and a paper filter. The concentrate keeps two weeks; dilute it 1:1 with water, milk, or ice to serve.
Ingredients
100g (about 1 cup) coarsely ground coffee. 500g (about 2 cups) room-temperature filtered water. That's it. The 1:5 ratio makes a concentrate that you dilute 1:1 with water, milk, or ice.
Method
- 01Grind coffee very coarse (coarser than French press). If it looks like raw sugar, you're right.
- 02Combine coffee and water in a large jar or pitcher. Stir to saturate all grounds.
- 03Cover and refrigerate for 16-18 hours. Don't go past 24 hours or it gets bitter.
- 04Strain through a fine-mesh sieve to remove large grounds.
- 05Filter again through a paper filter or cheesecloth for a clean, silt-free concentrate.
- 06Store in a sealed container in the fridge. Good for up to 2 weeks.
Serving Ideas
Over ice: Dilute 1:1 with water, add ice. The classic. With milk: Dilute 1:1 with your favorite milk for a creamy cold latte. Tonic water: Mix 2oz concentrate with 6oz tonic water and ice. Trust us. Cocktails: Makes an excellent espresso martini base — 2oz concentrate, 1.5oz vodka, 0.5oz coffee liqueur, shake with ice.
